Scaling co compost production from recycled solid and liquid waste to support small tea growers and vegetable farmers.
Through the Water and Energy for Food initiative, RDO promoted co compost as a circular economy solution for agriculture in the Nilgiris. The programme recycled biodegradable waste and faecal sludge into compost, helping farmers reduce chemical fertiliser use, improve soil health and lower the carbon intensity of cultivation. The project supported small tea growers and vegetable farmers to adopt climate smart farming practices using locally produced compost.
Key Outcomes
Co compost promoted among small tea and vegetable growers, with 1,178 tea growers and 5,269 vegetable growers reached.
