Helping 4,500 Nilgiris farmers shift from conventional farming to climate smart natural farming through demonstration plots, farmer groups and market linkages.
RDO is working with the Supraja Foundation to support farmers in the Nilgiris to adopt low input, climate resilient agriculture for vegetables and millets. The programme promotes natural farming demonstration plots, farmer learning, Farmer Producer Organisations, improved livestock management, preparation of on farm bio inputs, collective input procurement and linkages with government, agribusiness and financial institutions. The aim is to reduce cultivation costs, improve soil health and build resilient rural livelihoods for tribal and Badaga farming communities.
Key Outcomes
4,500 farmers supported to move towards natural farming, with structured training, demonstration plots, farmer group strengthening and cost reduction practices.
